Remove location data from a photo

Strip GPS, camera, and timestamp details before sharing a photo. Runs entirely on your device — the file never uploads.

How to remove photo location data before sharing

  1. Choose a JPEG, PNG or WebP photo using the launcher above. Convert an iPhone HEIC photo first if needed.
  2. Run the cleanup to create a re-encoded copy without embedded GPS, camera and timestamp metadata.
  3. Download the copy, check EXIF fields in a local metadata viewer and inspect visible surroundings. Send the cleaned download rather than the source file.

Supported files: Input: JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 500 MB per file. Output: the same image format. Device memory may impose a lower practical limit.

A practical example

Before posting a photo of an item for sale, clean the embedded GPS and camera fields. Check the image itself for an address, reflection or landmark that could still reveal where it was taken.

Limitations and checks

  • The tool re-encodes at quality 95. JPEG and WebP pixels can change, and the cleaned file can be larger than the original.
  • Removing EXIF does not conceal faces, street signs, filenames or information recorded by a service you later share with.
  • For HEIC or HEIF, convert the still image first. Inspect the downloaded copy before sharing sensitive material.

What happens

  1. Remove Hidden Photo Data

About

Remove hidden location, camera, and timestamp details from a photo before sending or posting it. Phones and cameras can store extra information inside an image, including GPS coordinates, device details, and the time it was taken. That information is not always visible in the picture, but another person or service may be able to inspect it. This cleanup runs in your browser, with the selected photo kept on the device while its metadata is removed. The job creates a cleaned copy for sharing and leaves the original available. It removes embedded metadata from the processed image, but it cannot remove clues that are visibly shown in the scene itself.

Common uses

  • Remove GPS details before posting a photo taken at home.
  • Create a cleaned copy of a phone photo before sending it to a stranger.
  • Strip camera and timestamp information from an image used in a public listing.
  • Prepare a photo for a forum or social post without its embedded metadata.

Frequently asked questions

What information can be stored inside a photo?

A photo can contain EXIF metadata such as GPS coordinates, capture time, camera model, lens settings, and software details. The exact fields depend on the device and app that created it.

Will this remove a location visible in the picture?

No. It removes embedded metadata, not visible street signs, faces, house numbers, landmarks, reflections, or other clues in the image itself.

Does the cleanup replace my original photo?

No. It produces a separate cleaned file to download, leaving the source photo unchanged on your device.

Can a website add new metadata after I share the photo?

Possibly. This job cleans the downloaded copy at the time it is created, but another app or service can process that copy or add its own information later.
