Why won't websites accept my iPhone photos?
iPhones save photos in HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default. It makes smaller files than JPG, but many websites, forms, and older apps don't understand it. Converting to JPG makes the photo universally compatible.

No. The HEIC decoder runs inside your browser — the photo never leaves your device. The decoder downloads once (about half a megabyte) on first use, then works offline.
Which output format should I pick?

JPG and WebP re-encode at the quality you choose (90% by default, visually identical for photos). PNG output is lossless — every pixel is preserved exactly.
